Zebras INTERVIEWS

Interview with Josh Batty

Josh Batty on his career and fondest football memories.

Have you enjoyed playing for Brigg Town?

Yes, it has been really good! Obviously last season we fell short at the last hurdle in terms of promotion, but we’ve built a great squad with most players staying on this season and added more quality to the team. The squad has a good feel about it this year. I’m also feeling better myself.

How long have you played football?

Since I was six through the Hull City and Doncaster Rovers academies. At eighteen I went into semi-professional football.

Which player(s) did you idolize as a kid?

Scott Vernon. I used to have his picture up on my wall at home and also had PJs with his face on them.

What was the most unforgettable goal you’ve ever scored?

My most unforgettable goal was away at Campion on the last day of the 2016-17 season. The keeper collected the ball and the lino put his flag up so he put it down thinking it was an indirect free kick for offside. But the ref overruled him and said play on so I ran to the ball and put it into the empty net. Afterwards, I scored the second goal and we won 2-1 to go up as champions!

And finally, what has been the highlight of your career?

Winning the Senior Trophy with Brigg last season was very enjoyable after the play-off disappointment. So was winning the Senior Cup with Clee Town two years on the bounce. Winning the league with Hall Road is also up there.

Thanks for your time, Josh.

No worries.
