How did pre-season go?
It was good – very difficult in terms of training.
What did you make of the first friendly at Beverley Town?
That was the typical first pre-season game. You can run the streets and use every cone in the kit bag. But until you get those minutes in the tank through playing you’ll never be fully match fit. You could see that with us – rustiness and careless, but it’s only got better the more games we’ve played.
What about the Hessle Sporting game?
Hessle was an all round good performance. There was a lapse in concentration a few minutes in that cost us a goal. But as the game went on you could see the partnerships with players that are starting to be created. Dominance in the spine of the team allowing the flair players to do their thing.
The third game versus Winterton Rangers?
The Winterton victory was very good! What I would call a professional performance. Everything we did was educated and delivered with purpose. Performances like that in the future will bring many more wins.
You missed the match away to Appleby Frodingham. How was the last one at Bottesford Town?
It was another solid all round performance and another clean sheet. Defensive play is Something we’ve been focusing on. We as a group conceded far too many goals last season and it’s the main reason we didn’t go up! It’s a cliché saying, but if you don’t concede you don’t lose. With the amount of goals we score we’re bound to win the majority. So some massive positives to take going into the first game of the season that I really look forward to.
Are you ready for the season now?
Yes. You can evidently see what we’ve been working on is really starting to show in the games. A few things still need improving on – that will always be the case with players missing etc. But yes, I’m happy and raring to go!
Thanks and good luck in the new campaign.
You’re welcome. Hopefully we’ll have a great season!
