The Zebras made a clean sweep in September!

Brigg Town won all five of their games in September. The Zebras beat Staveley Miners Welfare (3-1), Rossington Main (3-2), Horbury Town (2-1), New Mills (3-0) and Beverley Town (3-1). All of those teams are good so to win against every one of them was fantastic! Those wins followed a 3-1 victory over Runcorn Town in the FA Vase. Therefore, the Zebras have now won six in a row which is perfect.

In the first match, Staveley were 1-0 up at half time. Thankfully, Brigg’s second-half display was much better with goals from Alfie Usher, Josh Batty and Dayle Hutson. This was the first of a few turnarounds in September. There were more soon afterwards and some dramatic late goals.

A spirited fightback was required in the NCEL League Cup First Round. Things didn’t look hopeful while Rossington led 2-0 with about half an hour left. After Scott Phillips scored a penalty it remained 2-1 until the last few minutes. Kevan Kahoussi equalized on 89 minutes before Finley O’Sullivan’s long shot won it right at the end. A remarkable comeback!

Horbury were top of the NCEL Division One when Brigg played them. The Zebras trailed 1-0 with less than 10 minutes remaining. Fraser Papprill’s 86th-minute equalizer seemed to have rescued a point. However, Usher had other ideas nicking all three with a 90th-minute winner. Brigg had shown character to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat again.

Next up were New Mills in the FA Vase Second Round Qualifying. The longest away day so far this season was well worth the trip. Brigg’s performance was outstanding from start to finish. Phillips was on target twice before Kahoussi found the top corner with a great strike. The Zebras were delighted to book their place in the next round of a competition that means a lot to the club.

Beverley were Brigg’s last opponents in September. Kahoussi, Hutson and Martin Pembleton found the net in a brilliant first half. A consolation goal was conceded in the second half, but it didn’t prevent yet another win. This completed a month that couldn’t have gone any better in terms of results. Results are the main thing so Brigg are very pleased.

The Zebras wouldn’t have won every time without constantly doing the right things. The whole squad worked as hard as they possibly could in training and on the pitch. It was a team effort with everyone getting the job done together. O’Sullivan was chosen as the player of the month. Credit to him and every player who contributed in September.
