Dronfield Town 3-3 Brigg Town FC CIC

Brigg travelled to face Dronfield Town at the Stonelow playing field. The spoils were shared after an entertaining end-to-end match.

Ras Diamond was included in the starting line-up for the first time and he soon showed up as a threat to the home team defenders with his pace down the right wing.

Brigg began confidently with Lucas Robinson making a strong forward run but the ball ran away from him for a goal kick.

The home team responded with a couple of shots but each being safely held by Lewis Hill in the Brigg goal.

Dronfield scored the opening goal of the game after seven minutes. It came after Hill made another save but slipped at the edge of his six-yard area allowing Max Rhodes to win the ball before tapping it into the empty net.

Five minutes later, Brigg scored an equaliser when Martin Pembleton’s through ball for Brett Agnew fell to Ras Diamond inside the penalty area who slotted it into the net.

Pembleton was dictating play in midfield and after twenty minutes he set up another chance for Diamond but his strike at goal was hurried and the ball flew over the bar.

In the last twenty minutes of the first half, Brigg continued to push forward and to create clear openings but efforts from Scott Hutchinson, Lucas Robinson, Steve McCarron and Jack Boswell were all safely defended.

At the other end of the pitch, Dronfield won two corners but gained no advantage from these as they were penalised for pushes inside the penalty area.

The second half began promisingly for Brigg but James Petronzio was harshly cautioned for a ball-winning tackle.

Brigg took the lead after fifty-six minutes when Martin Pembleton controlled a pass from Agnew and the home ‘keeper couldn’t get his hands firmly enough on the Brigg midfielder’s long-range strike to prevent it from finding the back of the net.

The Dronfield response came after just another six minutes when Daniel White rose highest to meet a left-wing corner to equalise.

Brigg restored the lead within five minutes when Peter Winn headed Pembleton’s free kick past Naylor in the Dronfield goal.

With their lead regained halfway through the second period, Brigg had the opportunity to take full control of the game but some poor play allowed Dronfield to strike back with an equalising goal after eighty-two minutes from James Lindores, who fired home from a right-wing cross.

In the final minute, the home team went close to winning the game with a deflected shot that was pushed around the upright by Lewis Hill.
