This was a scheduled home league fixture for Ollerton which was switched to be played at Brigg at late notice.

Brigg began the game strongly, winning a right wing corner kick in the first minute but this was eventually cleared from the goal area.

Jack Boswell found space to fire a shot wide of the post and then Ollerton keeper Clifford Jackson made a low diving save.

Continuing to pressurise the visitors’ defence, Brad Ronis was close to opening the score with a sharp drive flying past the top angle of the goal. However, the first goal was scored by Ben Vasquez after fifteen minutes when he finished off a right wing attack.

Displaying much confidence in attack, the second goal came five minutes later from Luke Mascall who raced clear down the middle of the pitch before driving the ball into the back of the net from just inside the area.

Martin Pembleton, back in the starting line-up after injury, was controlling the midfield play and setting up chances with virtually every touch of the ball as well as going close to adding his name to the score sheet when he drove the ball marginally wide from a left wing attack. Vasquez and Scott Hutchinson both went close with successive shots across the face of the Ollerton goal but Vasquez didn’t miss out when he scored the third goal after thirty-nine minutes. This signalled the start of a devastating period of six minutes before the half time in which the Zebras added three more goals to their total.

A minute after Vasquez scored his second, Mascall did the same when he struck a beautiful long-distance shot from forty yards out into the roof of the net.

Two minutes before half time, Lewis Hill made his first save of the game following an Ollerton left wing corner kick.

After the ball was cleared to the other end of the pitch, Hutchinson found space to force the goalkeeper into a diving save but in the last action of the half, Fin O’Sullivan added a fifth goal by heading home from a right wing corner.

Beginning the second half with a five-goal lead, Brigg continued to dominate possession in the opening period after the break.

Scott Hutchinson was on target to add to the score in the first attack down the right wing and Steve McCarron made it seven after another five minutes of play.

Robbie Start and Boswell combined well down the left wing and continually looked dangerous.

Brigg made their substitutions but Ollerton battled on gamely and had ten minutes of more possession and better containment. This resulted in a consolation goal scored fifteen minutes from time after an attack down the left wing resulted in the ball hitting the upright before bouncing back to leave an open goal for Ollerton number nine Malachi-Ethan Bailey.

The nearest Brigg came to increasing their tally came from Boswell’s probing down the left and Start’s penetrating forward runs in what may be one of his last appearances in a black and white shirt.
