For their last scheduled home league game of the season, Brigg welcomed Glasshoughton Welfare, who needed to win the game to avoid the threat of relegation.

In the first minute, the visitors attacked down the left wing and the move ended with a shot at goal striking the near upright post before bouncing clear.

Following this, a free kick into the Brigg penalty box was blocked and a long throw from the right was cleared. Brigg were slow to settle but after ten minutes, Jack Boswell and Robbie Start combined well on the left wing to create an opening but the threat was covered after a long free kick went over the crossbar.

Steve McCarron pushed forward but his strike at goal was smothered low down by the Glasshoughton keeper. The visitors then enjoyed more possession for a ten minute spell but were unable to create any significant chances.

After thirty minutes of play, Jack Boswell was fouled just outside the penalty area in a central position but Alfie Usher’s free kick was safely held.

Brigg continued to push further forward against the headwind with Jack Boswell and Luke Mascall prominent but Glasshoughton defended well to take the two teams into the half time break with no goals to show.

The second half began with Brigg working the ball down the left wing but the final cross into the goal area was collected by the goalkeeper.

At the other end of the pitch, a right wing move ended with the ball crossed along the full length of the six-yard line without any player able to reach it.

Brigg continued with their forward pressing but Alfie Usher’s twenty-five-yard drive was wide of the goal. After an hour of play, the first team substitutions were made. Dean McCarthy headed a right wing corner kick wide and Brigg managed to get the ball into their opponent’s goal net but an offside decision was awarded.

Play continued to be end-to-end with the home team having the slight edge with the wind in their favour but there was little to get excited about except for a shot against the Welfare woodwork so the game ended timidly and scoreless.

The two remaining league games are due to be played inside the next week but there is still some doubt about the venue for the Ollerton match that was rearranged for midweek.
