With all the goals scored in the first half, the Zebras controlled the second half to extend their unbeaten run.

Brigg began the game positively with an initial attack down the right wing which ended with with Luke Mascall working the ball into the goal area before firing it into the side netting.

Armthorpe’s immediate reply came from a free kick awarded inside the centre circle but ended with a pushing offence in the Brigg penalty area.

After four minutes of play, Brigg scored their first goal which came from a repeat of their opening move when Mascall ran onto a pass from Brett Agnew to drive the ball into the back of the net from twelve yards out. Lewis Hill then made a comfortable low diving save and a left wing corner kick was cleared.

When Brigg pushed forward again, a free kick from midfield caught the forwards offside. After nineteen minutes Brigg doubled the score after Agnew won a right wing corner kick which was met by the energetic Mascall to drive the ball into the back of the net from a short distance out.

There was an immediate response from the home team with Adam Baskerville finding space after a right wing attack to reduce the arrears in the next minute.

Inside a further three minutes, Luke Williams punished some poor defending after Brigg gave the ball away cheaply in midfield to level the score after exploiting the space left on the left wing.

With the confidence gained from their two-goal recovery, Welfare surged forward again and were unlucky with their next attack after a strike at goal struck the upright post and bounced back across the goal line to safety.

Brigg began to enjoy more ball possession and settled to restore composure. After thirty-five minutes, they regained the lead from the penalty spot after Agnew received the ball from a free kick and was pushed over inside the area. Alfie Usher confidently drove the awarded spot kick into the back of the net.

Another strike at the Brigg goal by Baskerville in the last minute of the first half flew over the crossbar but the teams went into the break with Brigg holding a single-goal advantage.

Play was fairly even during the second half but Brigg seemed comfortable in controlling the pace of the game.

An attempted strike at goal by Dean McCarthy sailed over the crossbar and a long free kick into the Brigg penalty area evaded everyone.

Armthorpe’s keeper then made a couple of testing saves to deny McCarthy.

Both teams introduced their substitutes for the last quarter of the game with Luke Anderson returning to add pace to the Zebras’ attacks. He was presented with an opportunity to score a fourth goal but after winning the ball well from a careless Welfare free kick, his strike was hurried and blasted over the crossbar.

Hill had one more shot to save in the final minutes but showed a commanding presence and sure handling as Brigg played out the latter stages of the game without any further concerns.

The win lifts the Zebras up to eighth position in the league with two more home fixtures to be played in the week ahead.
