Starting positively from the first whistle, Harrogate attacked down the right wing with a strike at goal going just wide.
Then Steve McCarron blocked their next attack on the left to clear the ball up the pitch. Continuing to push forward, they were awarded a free kick from within the centre circle which led to a corner kick but the delivery was met with a shot over the crossbar.
Brigg’s first attack ended in a corner kick from Martin Pembleton being headed over the Rail goal and this was followed up with another deep cross into the penalty area going out of play at the far post.
Alex Clark found the corner of the Brigg goal after fifteen minutes but he was ruled to be offside.
Five minutes later, Rail scored the game’s first goal after an inswinging free kick was headed onto the crossbar with the rebound falling to Ben Holmes in the crowded six-yard box who prodded the ball into the net.
Three minutes later, they scored a second goal when a loose forward pass in the Brigg penalty area was pounced on by Luca Bolino who controlled the ball before driving it into the back of the Zebras net.
Another chance came for the visitors to add a further goal but Owen Dunkley’s cross was headed wide.
From then onwards, Brigg began to win more possession with Martin Pembleton continuing to be prominent once more.
Before the half-time whistle, attacks on the Rail goal saw efforts by Peter Winn, Ben Vasquez, Jack Boswell and Prince Haywood well saved by Jonathan Dash in the Rail goal to preserve his team’s two-goal lead at the break.
The second half began with another raid by the visitors, winning a right-wing corner which finished up with a low shot at goal being saved.
When Brigg responded, Boswell had an early chance to reduce the arrears but blasted his shot wide of the goal.
Continuing to improve in their open play and moving the ball forward quickly, Brigg scored their first goal from a well-worked free kick after fifty-five minutes. Martin Pembleton played the ball to Brett Agnew who returned it to him to drill the ball home.
With confidence seemingly restored, Brigg pushed forward and Robinson was proving to be a danger to the opposition with strong runs down the right wing. Vasquez had a shot pushed wide by the Rail keeper before Agnew headed wide from the resulting corner.
Brigg scored the equaliser after seventy minutes and it came again from the ever-alert Martin Pembleton who tucked the ball into the back of the net after his initial shot was saved.
Brigg took control of the game and went ahead for the first time with only five minutes of play remaining. The goal was scored by Brett Agnew, who stayed onside to receive Hutchinson’s through ball just inside the penalty area before sweeping it into the corner of the net.
Scott Hutchinson then completed the scoring for Brigg well into added time when he converted Reggie Waud’s pass to realistically seal the win but with the very last action of the game, Brigg conceded a penalty kick for a foul allowing Henry Gardner the opportunity to also add his name to the score sheet.
