
In Brigg’s opening attack, Brett Agnew was caught offside on the right wing but in the second minute of the game he was played clear to advance unchallenged into the penalty area but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper.
Brigg continued to enjoy most of the possession in the opening minutes but when the visitors settled, their first attack ended with a header over Lewis Hill’s goal.
Then, the Brigg ‘keeper had to make a low save from a deflected shot from outside the penalty area.
Yellow cards was issued early in the game to Brigg’s Luke Anderson and Luke Mascall and the Beavers’ Ollie Nicholson was also cautioned for a foul on Price Haywood.
Midway through the first half, Anderson’s effort found the side netting and Agnew was again adjudged to be offside after a left-wing attack. Brigg continued to have most of the ball with the advantage of a stiff breeze behind them but Beverley defended well to keep the score level.
As half time approached, a free kick on the right for Brigg was headed away from the penalty area and Beverley counter-attacked down the right wing to force a corner which the Brigg defence cleared.
In the last action of the first half, a foul against Agnew resulted in a free kick but the ball trickled through to the goalkeeper.












Beverley began the second half more sharply but their first attack resulted in a shot skied over the home crossbar.
Chas Fisher made an excellent saving tackle at the edge of the penalty area to hold up a penetrating forward move.
The only goal of the game was scored after fifty minutes of play when Matthew Plummer beat the home defenders to a high cross from a corner to head in from a yard out.
Play became scrappy and was continually being held up by lectures from the referee to both sets of players.
Brigg were reduced in numbers after Agnew was sent to the sin bin and Mascall was also cautioned.
Beverley almost scored again but the ball was cleared off the goal line after a scramble.
The game ended with in a narrow victory for the away team but the standard of play throughout was poor.
