Brigg Town FC CIC 2-0 Ollerton Town

Two first half goals and a clean sheet earned Brigg a relatively comfortable win against Ollerton Town

Brigg settled quickly to enjoy most of the possession in the early minutes of the game but Ollerton defended effectively and began to create their own openings. Daniel Trott found space on the right side of the penalty area to force Ollerton goalkeeper Dylan Hough into making a low save.

Ollerton’s response resulted in the ball being played down their right wing before being crossed to the near post, but it was comfortably held by Adam Hewitson.

Two more strikes at the Brigg goal by Ewan Birch and Connor Eyes were off target and a forward run by Ethan Hargreaves resulted in a corner kick that Brigg defended well.

After fifteen minutes the ball was worked neatly from midfield to inside the opponent’s penalty area to Trott who forced Hough into making a finger-tip save around his goal post.

Unfortunately, Trott pulled up with an injury after stretching to reach another through ball and had to be replaced by Scott Hutchinson after just twenty minutes of play.

Continuing to press forward, Henry Ellis was denied by another save from Hough and Ryan Thompson struck a fierce shot wide from outside the penalty area.

The first goal came after thirty-eight minutes when Stephen McCarron met a floated free kick and drove the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out.

Two minutes later, Scott Hutchinson scored the second following a delightful passing movement down the Brigg right wing.

With the confidence gained from a two-goal advantage, Brigg created further chances in the closing five minutes of the half. A strong header went over the crossbar, followed by a clearance off the Ollerton goal line from a Declan Bacon snap shot.

The second half began with another neat passing move and a deflected shot going over the Ollerton goal, but Hough caught the resulting corner kick.

Ollerton then enjoyed their best period of the game but were unable to create many clear chances. From a right-wing corner, the ball was blocked on the Brigg goal line before being cleared up the pitch.

When Brigg responded, Ryan Thompson won a left-wing corner kick from which the ball was partially cleared out to Owen Vincent, whose shot went narrowly over the crossbar. Ollerton broke down their left wing and a final shot went right across the Brigg goal area.

Brigg maintained their control of the game and as the final whistle approached, Thompson and McCarron worked an opening down the left wing to win another corner kick which the latter met at the near post with a header which was ably saved by the Ollerton goalkeeper.
