Brigg Town FC CIC 3-3 Glasshoughton Welfare

An injury-time equaliser denied the Zebras all three points in a hectic midweek league match.

Glasshoughton Welfare started well and took an early lead when Matthew Semley’s attempted cross sailed into the roof of the net.

After a poor start, Brigg Town began to get more possession and worked an equalizing goal in the 17th minute. The ball was played into the goal area from the left wing and initially cleared, but James Petronzio was at the near post to steer it into the back of the net.

Afterwards stand-in goalkeeper Gareth Johnson saved a free kick and Fraser Papprill made a timely interception to deny Glasshoughton.

The visitors regained the lead 5 minutes before the break from a long free kick by Adam Walsh, which struck the underside of the crossbar and was adjudged to have crossed the goal line.

In a hectic end to the first half both sides created chances, but as the whistle went for the break it was the visitors with their noses in front.

Brigg’s play showed more attacking flair in the opening minutes of the second half with Alfie Usher turning neatly to send a shot just wide and Jack Richardson firing a fierce drive over the bar from 25 yards out.

More attacks brought a second equalizer on 57 minutes. From the best move of the match, Alfie Usher and Josh Batty combined well on the left before the former squared for Scott Phillips to fire home.

Minutes later Chaz Fisher almost bagged a fabulous goal rattling the crossbar with a thunderous 30-yard strike.

Richardson and Phillips then came close before Brigg went ahead for the first time with 10 minutes left. Substitute Dayle Hutson made an instant impact scoring with his second touch following good approach play from Usher and Martin Pembleton.

The Zebras looked capable of hanging on. However, in stoppage time a quick counterattack down the left ended with Walsh forcing the ball in to rescue a point.

Zebras Eleven:

Johnson, Petronzio, Fisher, Richardson, O’Sullivan, Papprill, Carew, Pembleton, Phillips, Batty, Usher.

Substitutes:
