In the opening stages skipper Dan Thirkell found the net with a looping header from a set play, but the goal was adjudged to be offside.
Harrogate’s Fatlum Ibrahimi then came close with a good effort from the edge of the box.
Minutes later Lawrence Heward made an excellent last-ditch challenge on Kieran Greenway, who had raced clear.
After weathering the storm the Zebras benefited from a moment of misfortune on 26 minutes. Martin Pembleton crashed a free kick onto the underside of the crossbar and Thirkell’s attempted clearance flew into his own goal.
Brigg’s performance improved at 1-0 and Stephen McCarron nearly scored with a low cross that hit the post after eluding players in the penalty area.
Pembleton curled another free kick just over before something special happened in the 41st minute.
Pembleton’s corner was headed out of the danger zone by Thirkell and the ball came to McCarron. The Scotsman took a touch and unleashed a 20-yard thunderbolt that flew into the back of the net.
It was a great goal to give the Zebras a 2-0 lead at half time.

Early in the second half Jack Lazenby was booked for a foul on Pembleton. The midfielder was unable to continue so Josh Batty replaced him.
Once the game restarted Dayle Hutson and Alfie Usher combined well before the latter struck a shot over the bar.
Batty had a chance to put Brigg further ahead winning the ball high up the pitch, but he fired inches wide of the post.
Minutes later Batty headed Luke Sellers’ corner narrowly wide. The substitute had looked lively since coming on and also saw a shot blocked inside a crowded box.
Towards the end Elliott Holmes’ header from a set piece had goal written all over it. That was until James Petronzio denied him with a terrific goal line clearance ensuring there was no consolation goal.
The Zebras were delighted to keep a clean sheet and progress further in the FA Vase.
The Second Round Proper is at home to Cheadle Town on Saturday 12th November.
