Shirebrook Town 0-5 Brigg Town FC CIC

Brigg made a number of enforced team changes for their away game at Shirebrook but played well enough to secure an impressive win with the bonus of a rare clean sheet.

The home team were first on the offensive when Kyle Gaunt found space to run down the right wing but he was dispossessed by Fin O’Sullivan. Tom Collins made a low diving save at the foot of his upright to deny Josh Parfitt after ten minutes.

Brigg settled down to play some good passing football and had a couple of shots cleared from the home team’s goal line.

Parfitt had a great chance for Shirebrook but fired over the crossbar when through on goal.

Brigg opened the scoring after twenty-eight minutes when Conner Harman gained control of the ball from a free kick played into the penalty area before finding the corner of the net.

Josh Batty ran clear of the home defenders before dragging his shot wide after first checking his stride.

Jack Richardson scored the second goal for Brigg five minutes before half time after he won control of Collins long clearance.

Alfie Usher and Steve McCarron both went close to adding to the two-goal lead before half time.

Shirebrook opened the second half positively with Collins saving Kieron Oldridge’s free kick and Daniel Ramsey’s shot.

Josh Batty scored a decisive third goal just short of the hour mark to put Brigg in complete control of the match when he took possession of a loose ball down the right wing before advancing to smash it into the back of the net.

Brigg were able to introduce their young substitutes, all of whom played with confidence and style.

The fourth goal was scored in the sixty-third minute when the influential Jack Richardson ran at the Shirebrook defence before finding the back of the net from twelve yards out.

Five minutes later, Harman completed the scoring following another raid down the right wing.

Batty missed out on being the third Brigg player to score a brace when he pulled his shot wide, but the five-goal victory was well-earned after a slow start to the game.
