Rossington Main 5-2 Brigg Town FC CIC

Sadly, this match will be remembered for the wrong reasons. Brigg Town were doing well at second placed Rossington Main, but a terrible decision turned the game on its head.

All was going to plan with the Zebras in front until disaster struck on the stroke of half time. The outcome was a wrongful dismissal for Alfie Davy followed by an equalizer from the penalty spot.

Afterwards, the second half proved to be a struggle with ten men.

Brigg made a perfect start with Ryan Thompson firing home the rebound after Josh Batty’s shot was saved by Lewis Hill.

The Main responded well with in-form striker Ross Hannah forcing Jody Barford into a smart stop before equalizing when Greg Young’s effort was deflected in.

Batty and Hannah then came close at either end before the pivotal moment came.

Davy and Hannah ran towards a long ball into the box. Both players went down after Hannah had clearly leaned into Davy, who had done absolutely nothing, so it should have been a free kick to Brigg.

The Zebras were horrified when the referee awarded a spot kick and red-carded the young defender. Hannah converted the resulting penalty to make it 2-2 at the interval.

The second half went pear-shaped with Batty going off injured before Hannah bagged his second goal of the afternoon.

Minutes later Hannah completed his hat-trick with a second penalty after Lee Briggs was alleged to have handled in the area. Impressively, this was the former professional’s third hat-trick in a row.

Late on Brad Grayson netted a fifth goal adding gloss to the final score.

Although this was another bad result, Brigg’s performance was better than last week’s against Ollerton Town. Hopefully, the Zebras will be third time lucky when Parkgate visit the EC Surfacing Stadium on Saturday.

Zebras Eleven:

Barford, Petronzio, Davy, Richardson, Fisher, Briggs, McCarron, Batty, Vincent, Thompson.

Substitutes:

Pugh, Harman, Taylor, Hutson, Mascall.
