With Luke Mascall unavailable to play, Prince Haywood was drafted into midfield alongside Martin Pembleton and Steve McCarron, and had an outstanding game throughout the ninety minutes.

The home team’s first attack was down the left wing but the ball was blocked at first before Miles Fenty held the resulting high cross played into his goal area.
When Scott Phillips was fouled outside the area, the free kick awarded was too long for anyone to get a finishing touch.
Jack Cross looked lively on the ball and moved it well from the left, back inside to the other side of the pitch before firing a shot at goal which finished just wide.
Following this, the same player worked the ball forward for Reggie Waud to have another strike at goal, but his effort flew over the crossbar.
With Brigg beginning to enjoy more possession of the ball, a free kick played into the home team’s penalty area was cleared away for a throw-in. This was comfortably defended before being cleared further up the pitch.
Beverley had a chance to open the scoring after twenty-five minutes but a ball played through the middle into open space inside the area left Benjamin Hitchcliffe one-on-one with Fenty, but he rolled his shot just wide of the post.
The opening goal came on thirty-two minutes from a free kick awarded against James Petronzio outside the penalty area. Oliver Baldwin struck a fierce shot into the roof of the Brigg goal.
In the next minute, Beverley increased the lead when Baldwin had the easiest of chances to drive the ball into the back of the net after strong appeals for an offside decision were rejected.
With a comfortable lead now established, the home team took control of the game and Brigg conceded a third goal three minutes before the half time whistle. Ex-Zebras’ striker Phillips was left unmarked on the left side of the penalty area before receiving the ball at his feet, ably turning neatly before firing a low shot into the far corner of the Brigg goal.

The second half of the game was always going to be difficult for Brigg, but they played well without really threatening the home team’s goal.
Fenty made two more outstanding saves to prevent The Beavers from adding to their score, but there were no chances created from promising-looking moves.
The balance of play remained fairly equal for the rest of the game but the damage had been done in those crucial few minutes towards the end of the first half resulting in a comfortable win and three points for the home team.
