League leaders Parkgate FC were the visitors for the game at The EC Surfacing Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Parkgate extended their winning run by virtue of three goals resulting from poor defending.

The home team were first to threaten with a right-wing cross from Prince Haywood being blocked and defected for a corner kick which was cleared away at the second attempt. Parkgate had to make an early substitution in the seventh minute due to an injury as Brigg continued to attack with another right-wing cross into the penalty area followed by a quick free kick.

Parkgate then settled down to create openings and Haywood needed treatment after defending a free kick played into the penalty area. Neat passing between Haywood and Brett Agnew resulted in a right-wing corner kick but this was well defended.

Parkgate went ahead with the first goal coming in the eighteenth minute when a harmless looking ball from Dominic Hart towards Hill bobbled past the Brigg keeper on the uneven surface and trickled into the corner of the goal before he was able to retrieve the ball.

Clearly encouraged by this early success, the visitors began to look more dangerous but Hill safely collected a free kick played into his six-yard area. Play remained end to end for the duration of the first half with Hill holding on to a couple of crosses and covering a right-wing corner kick which finished narrowly wide.

Leading by the single goal at half time, Parkgate were first to show in the second half of play with an attack down their right wing safely blocked. Then after fifty minutes, they scored the important second goal which came direct from a free kick taken from outside the penalty area by Jack Haslam when the ball swerved into the corner of the goal close to the upright post.

The two-goal cushion allowed Parkgate to control the game and they defended their lead well. Martin Pembleton was injured after an hour of play and needed extensive treatment but was unable to continue and had to be substituted.

When Brigg mounted an attack, Agnew took control of a pass played to him at the edge of the penalty area and turned his marker to get a shot on target but this was comfortably saved. The Brigg player-manager then volleyed a shot past the top angle of the goal from a left-wing corner kick and Haywood drove a free kick from thirty yards out wide of the goal.

Parkgate continued to manage the play with their lead and scored another goal five minutes from the full-time whistle when Liam Royles chased after a poor intended back pass beyond the advancing Lewis Hill five minutes from the end of the game before planting the ball firmly into the back of the net, rewarding his team with an eighth successive win and keeping them at the top of the table.
