The ‘Ambers’ were soon on the offensive from the kick-off exploiting space in the Brigg defence. A left wing cross from Koby Eratt-Thompson was delivered deep into the goalmouth area before a header from a follow-up cross was blocked.
Continuing to press forward in the opening stages two more left wing crosses were defended. Henry Carne moved forward from out of the defence to head yet another chance wide of the goal. Brandon Bagley worked space down the left wing but Zebra’s keeper Lewis Hill was able to collect the ball to halt his progress.
Brigg responded with Brett Agnew working the ball into the penalty area but his strike at goal was blocked.
Just as Brigg appeared to be settling down, the home team took the lead after eighteen minutes of play. It came from a slick move down the right wing which ended with a great strike from outside the penalty area by Leon Howarth giving Hill no chance of making a save.
From then to the half time break, play was reasonably even with both teams creating chances in an open game but the Ambers still dominated possession.
Luke Anderson went close for Brigg after a run down the right wing but his shot travelled across the face of the goal before being cleared.
The Ambers best opportunity to increase their lead came from a free kick at the edge of the area which was deflected wide for corner.
Early pressure was sustained by the Ambers from the start of the second period of play but at the other end of the pitch, Prince Haywood’s shot at goal was saved by Dylan Parkin.
The second and decisive goal came after fifty-four minutes when Alfie Dodsworth won the ball in midfield after poor defensive play before finding the back of the net.
After that, the home team completely dominated play for the remainder of the game.
Aaron Moxam scored the third goal to effectively seal the victory for the Ambers and then the same player completed a rapid hat-trick with a further two goals in the closing six minutes of normal time.
Into added time, Brigg managed to put some respectability on the score line by finding the net twice with goals coming from Luke Anderson and Brett Agnew, but the better team on the night won comfortably and progress to the fourth round of the competition.
