Brigg Town FC CIC 3-1 Beverley Town

League newcomers Beverley Town were the visitors for Brigg Town’s midweek game following their FA Vase win at New Mills four days earlier.

The home team began strongly and were a goal ahead in the 5th minute through Kevan Kahoussi, who found the back of the net after being played in by Stephen McCarron.

Clearly encouraged by the early success, the Zebras continued to dominate throughout the first half.

Kahoussi was a constant danger for Beverley’s defenders and another progressive move from him set up a chance for Martin Pembleton that was well saved by Rasmus Kriisa.

Beverley’s Sam Calvert came close before Brigg doubled their lead on 41 minutes. Pembleton ran onto Scott’s Phillips’ ball over the top before dribbling into the box to slot home.

Goal number three was on the stroke of half time when Dayle Hutson latched onto Kahoussi’s through ball and fired past the onrushing Kriisa.

Beverley played with more confidence in the second half, which began with Oliver Baldwin shooting into the side netting after an attack down the left.

Brigg had a chance to increase their tally as Scott Phillips worked his way into the penalty area and found Alfie Usher, whose effort was narrowly wide.

Beverley’s James Piercy reduced arrears in the 66th minute, heading in a free kick that was swung in from the right.

The visitors then continued to press with Luke Wheeldon’s volley forcing Tom Collins into a great save.

Afterwards Collins was called upon to make a couple more smart stops late on.

In stoppage time Alfie Usher’s cross was headed just over by Phillips.

The Zebras finished the night as comfortable winners.
