Selby responded to Brigg’s opening attack down the right wing with a long throw into the penalty area which was punched clear by Lewis Hill.
Prince Haywood was cautioned for a foul after ten minutes of play and Reggie Waud‘s shot from a distance was over the crossbar.
Haywood continued to work well in midfield to prompt forward attacks but was closely marked.
The opening goal came from the visitors after twenty minutes of play when Daniel Davison won possession from a low free kick into the penalty area before turning to strike the ball past Hill.
Brigg levelled the score after twenty-seven minutes when Scott Hutchinson’s shot was cleared off the Selby line allowing Kian Humphriss to play the ball to Declan Bacon who steered a snap shot into the back of the net.
Ten minutes later, Selby restored their lead from the penalty spot after a foul by James Petronzio close to the goal line on the left wing. Iwan Heeley blasted the spot kick into the roof of the net.
Two minutes later, Selby increased their lead to take control of the game. After a flowing move down their right wing, the ball was played into the path of Caden McGrath at the edge of the eighteen-yard area and he struck a great first-time shot into the far corner of the Brigg goal.
In the last minute of the first half, Brigg reduced the arrears after a poor handling error by the Selby goalkeeper allowed Reggie Waud to gain possession of the ball before knocking it into the back of the net.

The second half began with a period of scrappy play from both teams interrupted by inconsistent decisions.
Brett Agnew was introduced after an hour’s play and became the target man for Brigg’s attacks but they were caught wide open in defending a long ball played down the middle of the pitch after seventy-two minutes and conceded another penalty kick. Iwan Heeley again struck the ball with power to restore the two-goal lead.
Brigg had Jordan Spencer and Prince Haywood sent off within two minutes of each other midway through the half and battled on with their remaining eight outfield players.
They scored another goal from the penalty spot after Jack Boswell was brought down in the Selby box and Declan Bacon took the kick to bag his second goal of the game.
Continuing to press and looking more purposeful with their reduced number of players, Agnew was unlucky to see his strike from a left-wing cross deflected over the crossbar and then another shot hit the post.
Pushing even further forward looking for an equaliser, the Zebras’ lack of numbers in defence was exploited and, in the last minute of the game, Selby sealed the victory by scoring again when Harry Clapham was left completely clear to round Hill before netting his team’s fifth goal.
