Brigg began well but Dayle Hutson was caught offside twice in the opening couple of minutes whilst at the other end, David Birch had to get down quickly to save a low shot from inside his area. The opening goal was scored after five minutes of play and was a result of Steve McCarron working his way into the penalty area before testing out goalkeeper Lewis Hill with a low drive which was parried for Scott Phillips to follow up and find the back of the net.
Shirebrook made a positive response winning a free kick but this flew over the crossbar. Dayle Hutson worked an opening on the Brigg right wing but his cross into the penalty area was cleared. In the next attack a free kick was chipped forward for Dayle Hutson but Lewis Hill collected his shot at goal low down.
Brigg continued to press forward and Scott Phillips got a foot to the ball inside the penalty area but the ball went into the side netting. Jon Oglesby controlled a ball well down the left wing before finding Scott Phillips with a final pass but Lewis Hill again saved well.
Brigg scored a second goal after twenty-four minutes of play when Jon Oglesby collected a neat free kick to advance into the penalty area before beating Lewis Hill with a controlled strike.
With a two-goal lead, Brigg looked confident of adding more with shots from Scott Phillips and Jon Oglesby being deflected past the upright. Then after thirty-five minutes, Shirebrook reduced the arrears.
The goal scored was from a free kick thirty-five yards out close to the right-wing touchline. Joshua Devereux struck the ball towards the far post and found the corner of the goal unattended and out of reach for David Birch. Seven minutes later, the two-goal advantage was restored when Scott Phillips ran on to a long ball played down the Brigg right-wing beating the goalkeeper before steering it into the far corner of the net.

Brigg began the second half with the wind in their favour and holding a two-goal lead. David Birch held on to a high free kick into his area but was injured and needed treatment. After fifty-five minutes, Shirebrook were awarded a penalty kick for a foul inside the area and Nathan Jessop drove the ball into the corner of the net, giving the visitors more confidence.
After seventy-two minutes the home team attacked again down the left wing to win a corner kick. Dayle Hutson took possession of the ball and worked his way into the penalty area before being brought down which resulted in a spot-kick being awarded. Scott Phillips drove the ball firmly into the roof of the net to re-establish the two-goal difference.
Substitutions were made in an attempt to control the gameplay but Shirebrook worked hard to get back into it and were rewarded with another gift goal in the eighty-fifth minute. After pushing forward down their right-wing the ball was played for Keran McKenzie to chase it into the penalty area for a challenge on the home team goalkeeper, who missed out on an attempted clearance so allowing a simple tap into the unguarded goal.
With ninety minutes completed Brigg had to defend a corner kick from the right-wing but Sam Allcock was up the highest to head powerfully into the roof of the net for an equalising goal. Then in the last minute of added time, Brigg won a right-wing corner kick which was played into the crowded goalmouth, but the ball was met with a strong header going over an empty net to leave the match result as a draw.
