The home team were on the offensive in the opening minutes with a free-kick from thirty yards out blasted over the bar by Jamie Forrester. After three minutes, another free-kick was switched from the right-wing across the pitch to the left and when it was played back across the six-yard goal area, Levi Tarbotton drove it into the back of the net.
Brigg responded with two sharp attacks down the right-wing winning corner kicks but these were both blocked. The villagers kept up the pressure in the first quarter of the game with long-range efforts from Danny Emerton and Jamie Forrester off target.
Brigg gradually got more possession with Martin Pembleton making busy runs in mid-field. After twenty-five minutes his free-kick from thirty yards out was blocked in the penalty area and when the ball was cleared up the pitch, Miles Fenty was called upon to save from Jamie Forrester. With Brigg continuing to press, Scott Phillips headed the ball against the North Ferriby goal’s crossbar but it bounced clear.
Another break resulted in Danny Buttle delivering a telling cross into the penalty area but Tom Corner was unable to get a firm connection. After forty-two minutes, Brigg were back on level terms when Jack Bowskin got into the home team’s penalty area before meeting a left-wing cross with a firm drive into the back of the net.
Brigg continued to display confidence in the opening minutes of the second half and took the lead after fifty-seven minutes of play. Alfie Usher was in the right position to meet another left-wing cross to drive the ball home. The lead only lasted for four minutes with the villagers working the ball into the Brigg penalty area for Danny Buttle to deflect it into the goal.
North Ferriby immediately introduced midfield substitutes and began to exert more pressure but the Brigg defence stood firm. The game could have gone either way as Brigg still created openings and inside the final minute of added time appeals for a penalty kick when Dayle Hutson slipped in the area were rejected.
Overall the game was excellent value for the large crowd attending with lots of skill and endeavour shown by both teams of players.
Brigg now host Hallam F.C. on Saturday afternoon before travelling to Armthorpe next mid-week.
