After trailing by a goal with fifteen minutes remaining, the home team finished the game strongly to secure all three points.

They began the game well with Jon Oglesby attacking down the left wing to send a cross into the penalty area which was scrambled clear. Then Owen Vincent’s shot was deflected wide of the goal. Retford responded with their first attack down the right-wing but David Birch held on to the final cross inside his area.

The first goal was scored after eighteen minutes of play after Wayne Graves pushed forward to create an opening for Dayle Hutson but the home team were back on level terms within five minutes. After conceding a free kick close to the halfway line, the ball was played long to the far post and returned into the goal area for Graeme Severn to head it into the back of the net.

Brigg continued to push forward and went close with chances falling to Martin Pembleton, Scott Phillips and Owen Vincent but the score remained one each at half-time.

Brigg continued to enjoy most of the possession at the start of the second period and retook the lead after fifty-seven minutes when Martin Pembleton made a direct forward run before finding the back of the net from inside the penalty area.

David Birch had to make a diving save to stop a goal-bound shot with his legs, but as Retford began to gain more and more possession they equalled the scoring with a fine goal from Adam Scott, who cut in from the left wing before finding the roof of the net. After just two more minutes, the home team went ahead for the first time in the game.

They attacked again down the left-wing and when the ball was played across the face of the goal, the Brigg defenders failed to clear before it came back off the foot of the upright to give George White the easiest of chances. Brigg searched for something from the game but were caught out again in the final minute when Liam Bennett took advantage of a loose pass before advancing to complete the scoring.
