The home team began the game positively winning a right-wing corner kick in the first minute which David Birch punched clear. Continuing to press forward, two probing left-wing corner kicks were defended well with Jack Richardson and Leon Dawson clearing the danger.
David Birch was confident in his handling during the opening stages and was well-positioned to save efforts from Danny Wood and Sam Terry. As Brigg settled to play the ball around, Jonathan Oglesby began to get further forward to set up Brigg’s attacks and Josh Batty was unlucky to run the ball out of play when moving in on a strike at goal.
Jonathan Oglesby had two attempts at finding the back of the net curling one shot wide of the upright and another comfortably saved by Lewis Naylor. Owen Vincent suffered a leg injury and had to be substituted after forty minutes of play with Andy Taylor replacing him. Josh Batty managed to find the back of the net but was ruled to be offside.
Almost immediately after taking to the field, Andy Taylor scored the opening goal of the game with practically his first touch of the ball when he moved smartly into the penalty area from the right-wing before finding the far corner of the net. Then in the last action of the first half, Jonathan Oglesby and Andy Taylor combined well forcing the home ‘keeper Lewis Naylor to turn the ball around the post.

The second half began with Dronfield pressing down their right-wing but when the ball was crossed into the goal area, it was scooped over the bar from a short distance out. Brigg responded with Tom Johnson heading over the bar from a right-wing corner kick.
The second goal of the game was scored five minutes after the half time break. Finlay O’Sullivan set up a quick counterattack down the right-wing and Josh Batty found space inside the penalty area to drive the ball low into the corner of the net.
With a two-goal lead, Brigg defended well but the home team missed out on a golden chance after Sam Terry went clear only to knock the ball over David Birch’s crossbar. However, Daniel Wood reduced the arrears after sixty-five minutes when he side-footed the ball into the back of the net after it was played into the penalty area following a right-wing corner kick.
Further scoring opportunities arose at both ends of the pitch but Brigg made the three points safe with a third goal after eighty minutes. The ball was delivered from Jonathan Oglesby on the left wing into the penalty area and Scott Phillips met it on the rise to volley into the corner of the net. Shortly afterwards, the Brigg striker found the net again but he was ruled to be in an off-side position.
The three points won in this game assures Brigg of third-place position in the league table and they face Worsborough Bridge F.C. in their final league game of the season at home on Saturday afternoon when a fair crowd of supporters is expected.
