Dronfield Town were the visitors on Saturday afternoon with both teams hoping to move higher up the league table.

In the opening minutes of the game, Brigg goalkeeper Lewis Hill held on to a high cross from the right wing to set up an attack which ended with Jack Boswell firing a shot wide of the top angle of the Dronfield goal.

Both teams continued to create openings with the visitors forcing Lewis Hill into a firm save by tipping the ball against the upright post following a free kick played in from the right wing.

Brigg attacked again but were caught offside and then Prince Haywood pushed forward from midfield to test the Dronfield keeper with another high cross into the penalty area.

Jack Boswell was unable to get a firm shot at goal when advancing down the left wing but the opening goal was scored two minutes before the half hour. It came from Luke Mascall who followed up on a free kick from the left from which the ball rebounded off the post, quickly reacting to drive it into the back of the net from fifteen yards out.

The response from Dronfield was immediate and they equalised ten minutes later following a free kick on the halfway line. The dangerous Max Rhodes found space to advance into the Brigg penalty area on the left wing before chipping a neat shot past the advancing Lewis Hill into the far side of the net. The two teams went into the half time break on level terms

The second half began in much the same way as the first with reasonable scoring chances created at both ends of the pitch.

However, it was the away team who took the lead for the first time after an hour of play when Kenan McKenzie Grey won possession down the right wing after appeals for an offside decision were rejected before beating Hill.

Seven minutes later, Brigg were back level again after being awarded a penalty when Jacob Norburn was clumsily pulled back whilst attempting to get to a high free kick in a crowded penalty area. Steve McCarron took responsibility for the spot kick and calmly drove the ball low into the Dronfield net.

Brigg made their substitutions for the last twenty minutes of the game and play resumed in the same manner with both teams seeking a winner.

Hill made another fine save to tip a shot over the crossbar whilst at the other end of the pitch the Dronfield keeper was alert to come off his line to save another low shot.

The winning goal was scored by the Zebras three minutes from the end of the ninety when substitute Harry Griffin exploited space down the right wing to beat hopeful appeals for offside before planting the ball into the back of the net.

An extra eight minutes of added time were played before the final whistle was blown with the precious three points going to the home team after a hard-earned win in which every player deserved praise.
